Recruiting Update: Dasarte Yarnway Commits to Cal

Excellent news on the recruiting front—Dasarte Yarnway, the Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep star running back announced his commitment to Cal yesterday. Cal may have finally found their bruiser to run downhill and run over defenders, as Yarnway measures in at an impressive 6 feet and 215 pounds.

The 4-star recruit is currently ranked as the 21st best RB in the nation according to Rivals.com, and 23rd according to Scout.com. Yarnway also fielded offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, UCLA, and recently USC.

I must say I’m pretty happy about this one. Yarnway will easily be one of the biggest backs to come to Cal during the Tedford era (yes, even bigger than Marshawn Beast), and should provide an exciting change of pace to complement our current group of speedy backs. Plus, it appears we’ve got a classy one.

In addition to being an impressive back after rushing for 1,408 yards and 19 touchdowns his junior year, Yarnway is said to be just as solid a student (3.17 GPA) and an even better individual. The SF Gate has a great article about Yarnway’s maturity.

Yarnway’s commitment comes as a relief to a number of Cal fans who have grown increasingly anxious with Cal’s slow start in the increasingly early recruiting battles.

While it’s still much too early to assess how Cal’s recruiting class will begin to compare to previous years, one has to be happy with the quality of talent that Cal has assembled so far. Yarnway joins 4-star recruit, and Elite 11 QB Camp Participant Allan Bridgford. Also committed to Cal are 3-star CB Vachel Samuels from Lynwood HS, and 3-star OG Brian Schwenke. An early committed 3-star Junior WR Terrell Williams rounds out the current commit list for Cal.
